He was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for a head injury. A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.
Building owners in New York have a legal responsibility to maintain their properties in a reasonably safe condition. This must be done for the protection of everyone on a property whose presence is reasonably foreseeable. The company that built a home or residential structure could also be liable for an accident. It is important that certain steps are taken after any accident involving a building facade.
Accidents involving falling pieces that come from a building are often highly preventable. These incidents tend to involve building owners that were not performing adequate maintenance on their property. Among other things, building owners may not be performing routine inspections of their facade. Any person injured by a falling piece of concrete from a building may be able to pursue some measure of justice through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the child injured in this accident and his family. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the NYPD. There are many questions that have yet to be answered. When was the last time this facade was maintained?
