President Biden Set to Sign Camp Lejeune Bill On August 10

White House Confirms President Biden Will Sign PACT Act on Wednesday, August 10

WASHINGTON D.C. (August 7, 2022) – Nearly one week after congress passed the PACT Act, President Biden is set the sign the Camp Lejeune Justice Act into law during a Rose Garden ceremony at the white House on August 10.

The United States senate assured that the bill would become law last week after a bipartisan majority voted to pass it. The bill is intended to help veterans sickened by exposure to toxic burn pits.

It also includes the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022. The passage of this bill represents a huge step forward for the nearly 1,000,000 people who are believed to have been exposed to industrial contaminants at Camp Lejeune from August 1, 1953 through December 31, 1987.

The water at the military base in North Carolina became contaminated from improperly disposed of dry cleaning chemicals and storage drums. The chemical seeped into the two main water treatment plants that provided water for nearly everyone at the base.

People swam in the contaminated water and drank it completely unaware that they were being poisoned. In fact, it was not until October, 1980 that an Army lab began testing the water from Camp Lejeune’s Hadnot Point water system.

The passage of the Camp Lejeune Justice Act comes nearly 1 year after it was first introduced in congress. With its passage, all people who have become ill from the contaminated water at camp Lejeune will finally be able to have their day in court.

This new bill is proceeded by the Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012 which extended care to veterans and their families who were stationed at the base while the water was contaminated.

People exposed to the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune have suffered numerous ailments including bladder cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, parkinson’s disease,  and adult leukemia.

If you or someone that you care about has lived, worked or stayed at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days from August 1, 1953 through December 31, 1987, you may be entitled to compensation.
