Elderly Pedestrian, of Saint James, Died in East Northport Car Accident While Trying to Cross Larkfield Road
EAST NORTHPORT, LONG ISLAND (February 4, 2026) – An elderly pedestrian has tragically died in an East Northport car accident while attempting to cross Larkfield Road.
Long Island officials are saying that the accident took place around 11 PM on Monday. The pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when he was hit by a 2020 Subaru Outback.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
The 19-year-old driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with police. A full investigation remains ongoing.
Drivers must use a great deal of caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian they encounter in the roadway. According to NY Veh & Traf L § 1146, “Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to the contrary, every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” It is important that certain actions be taken after any pedestrian accident.
Pedestrian accidents are more likely to occur at night and at intersections. Drivers should always take this into consideration and slow down as necessary. If a driver doesn’t slow down and collides with a pedestrian ahead of them, this could be considered negligence. The family of any person who died in a pedestrian collision may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the person who died in this East Northport car accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. It is our sincere hope that steps are taken to make this particular stretch of road safer.
