52-Year-Old Pedestrian Tragically Died In Clifton Multi-Vehicle Collision
CLIFTON, NEW JERSEY (March 12, 2025) – A 52-year-old pedestrian has tragically died in a Clifton car accident near the intersection of Getty Avenue and Crooks Avenue.
Clifton officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:30 AM on Wednesday. A 35-year-old driver was heading down the road in a Chevy Trailblazer when they collided with multiple other vehicles before striking the pedestrian.
Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. The pedestrian was taken to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center with critical injuries.
Despite the best efforts of hospital staff, they died due to the severe nature of their injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Pedestrians are uniquely vulnerable to the hazards posed by motor vehicles. According to National Public Radio, “Pedestrian deaths have been climbing since 2010 because of unsafe infrastructure and the prevalence of SUVs, which tend to be more deadly for pedestrians than smaller cars, according to Martin.” There are many steps that the cities can take in order to help prevent pedestrian collisions.
Drivers must exercise a great deal of care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. They must consistently scan the road ahead of them and slow down for pedestrians and vehicles. If a driver fails to take evasive action in order to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim if a pedestrian sustained qualifying serious injuries. This could include several different types of injuries.
It could be hard to know where to begin after any pedestrian accident. Victims are often left with catastrophic injuries and high medical bills. This says nothing of the tremendous loss that a family can go through when a loved one is killed in a collision. It is important that accident victims understand that they do have legal rights. The family of any person killed in a pedestrian accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian killed in this Clifton car accident. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong for the sake of the victim’s family.
