Investigation Underway After Truck Hit Pedestrian in Wantagh Near Morris Gate and Sunrise Highway
WANTAGH, NEW YORK (December 4, 2025) – A pedestrian was injured in a Wantagh truck accident between Sunrise Highway and Morris Gate.
Long Island officials are saying the accident took place around 12:30 PM on Thursday. A male pedestrian was hit by a truck for undetermined reasons.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. He was conscious when they first arrived.
He was transported to a local hospital to receive additional care. A full investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing at this time.
Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured in motor vehicle collisions every year. According to the IIHS, “Deaths from motor vehicle crashes with pedestrians have increased 78% since reaching their low point in 2009 and account for 18% of crash fatalities. The rates of pedestrian crash deaths per 100,000 people are highest for people ages 20 and over.” Drivers should take several measures to avoid collisions.
Drivers must use caution to avoid collisions. This necessitates that they maintain a safe speed at all times. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Drivers must slow down even if a pedestrian is outside of a marked crosswalk. Any person injured in a Long Island pedestrian accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
