Over 12 Injured in Gravesend, Brooklyn MTA Bus Accident

More Than 12 Injured in Gravesend Truck Accident Involving MTA Bus by 359 Avenue U

GRAVESEND, BROOKLYN (July 7, 2026) – More than 12 people were injured in a Gravesend, Brooklyn MTA bus accident involving a truck along 359 Avenue U.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place shortly before 10 AM on Monday morning. A truck was involved in a collision with an MTA bus.

The circumstances leading up to the collision remain unknown at this time. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the victims.

Over 12 people were injured in the crash and multiple required hospitalization. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for New York City MTA Bus Accidents

Accidents involving MTA buses have become extremely common across New York City. According to the New York Post, “MTA buses racked up at least 21,823 crashes, collisions and other mishaps over 31 months beginning in 2015 — an average of 23 per day, The Post has found.  At least 2,520 people — or 2.7 per day — were injured during the time period, according to the MTA. At least 14 people died, including a 25-year-old skateboarder, a 62-year-old pedestrian, a 60-year-old motorist and a 70-year-old with a walker who was mutilated by a hit-and-run bus.” There are several steps that bus drivers should take to avoid collisions.

  • Bus drivers should check their blind spots before making turns in the roadway.
  • Bus drivers should be well rested before heading out onto the road.
  • Bus drivers should occasionally use their horn to alert people of their presence.
  • Bus drivers should avoid as many left turns as possible.

If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. However, liability for any bus collision can be complicated. It is possible that fault could be shared between two drivers. If the driver of a bus or truck is involved in a collision, their employer could also be legally responsible. Under New York law, employers are typically vicariously liable for the negligent conduct of their workers who are operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
