Driver Charged with DUI Following Middle Island Collision with Snow Plow on Middle Country Road
MIDDLE ISLAND, LONG ISLAND (February 13, 2026)—At least one person was injured in a Middle Island snowplow accident on Middle Country Road.
New York State Police said that the accident took place around 5:20 AM on Sunday. A driver apparently crossed into eastbound lanes of traffic before colliding with a Department of Transportation snowplow.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. One person inside of the snowplow sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle was charged with DUI.
Drunk driving and intoxication remain leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 42 minutes. In 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.” Alcohol can impair a person’s ability to operate their vehicle safely in a variety of different ways.
It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other substances. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that crosses into opposing lanes of traffic while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any person that is injured due to the negligent actions of an intoxicated driver may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the person injured in this Middle Island snowplow accident. Any person who may have more information about what happens should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what happened.
