New Lawsuit Claims Tepezza Caused Permanent Hearing Loss

Lawsuit Claims Tepezza® (Teprotumumab) Manufacturer Failed To Warn About Hearing Loss

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (November 21, 2022) – A man from Arizona has filed a lawsuit blaming Horizon Pharmaceuticals, which manufactures Tepezza, for his permanent hearing loss.

The plaintiff was taking Tepezza as a treatment for his thyroid eye disease. He took injectable infusions of Tepezza from June 2020 to September 2020.

Shortly after taking the drug, he was diagnosed with permanent hearing loss. The lawsuit states that Horizon Pharmaceuticals failed to warn about the risk of permanent hearing loss or tinnitus.

The lawsuit also claims that Horizon Pharmaceuticals failed to recommend that patients undergo audiological monitoring while taking the drug.

This is not the only known instance of hearing loss associated with Tepezza. A number of lawsuits have been filed since the middle of 2022 and efforts are underway to consolidate those claims.

In March 2021, The Endocrine Society released a study which showed that around 65% of patients taking Tepezza developed hearing problems.

Some patients have reported as cessation of hearing issues after ceasing the medication, but in many instances patients have had to endure permanent hearing loss or tinnitus.

Getting Help After Tepezza Related Hearing Loss

Patients who are taking Tepezza are already slowly going blind due to their thyroid eye disease. Now many of these patients have also been slowly loosing their hearing as well. It is a horrible situation. Horizon Pharmaceuticals should have taken more time to determine the extent and severity of the hearing loss caused by Tepezza. They should have also warned consumers about the risks of their drugs. Unfortunately, they have not done this and it is their own customers who are paying the price.
