Liability for Long Island Ladder Fall Accidents

Many workers are seriously injured every year in latter fall accidents. According to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, “Each year, there are more than 164,000 emergency room-treated injuries and 300 deaths in the U.S. that are caused by falls from ladders. Most ladder deaths are from falls of 10 feet or less.” There are a number of common causes of ladder fall accidents.

  • Many ladder accidents involve the ladder sliding from the base because it was set up at an incorrect angle. Ladder operators should set up a ladder at a roughly 75° angle.
  • Ladder accidents are also much more likely when workers use the wrong type of ladder for the given situation.
  • To ensure that ladders are safe to use, they should be regularly inspected.
  • Many ladder accidents involve people carrying objects up and down the ladder or applying excessive force on the ladder.

When a worker is injured in a ladder fall accident, they may have legal recourse through New York’s “scaffold law.” Building owners and general contractors are strictly liable for gravity-related accidents. This includes accidents where a worker falls or is struck by a falling object. Victims of latter fall accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage
  • Death

It can be hard to know where to begin after any latter fall accident. Victims often need to take extensive periods of time away from work. They may also be left with high medical bills. It is important that victims of construction accidents understand that they do have legal options. They may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim. If you’ve been injured in a ladder fall accident, a construction accident attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
