Multiple Police Officers Injured In Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan Semi-Truck Accident By 58th Street and 8th Avenue
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (August 18, 2024) – At least four people were injured in a Hell’s Kitchen Manhattan semi-truck accident by 58th Street and 8th Avenue.
New York City police are saying that the incident took place early Tuesday morning. An NYPD cruiser was involved in a collision with an 18-wheeler.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims. Four police officers were transported to the hospital in order to receive treatment.
Semi-trucks account for a relatively small number of the total vehicles on the road. But they are involved in a disproportionate number of fatal collisions. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2022, 5,837 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, an 1.8% increase from 2021 and a 49% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is up 3% from 2021, and up 24% in the last 10 years.” Semi-truck drivers should take a number of actions to avoid collisions.
All semi-truck drivers must get a commercial license and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. Many collisions are due to truck drivers making dangerous left turns. According to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Victims of truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
It can be hard to know where to begin after a semi-truck accident. Many victims are so seriously injured that they are not able to return to work. This is why it is so important to seek legal counsel as early as possible after any collision. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case free of charge and let you know what your legal options are.
