MELVILLE, NEW YORK (December 31, 2025) – A 63-year-old driver was seriously injured in a Melville two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Pinelawn Road and Express Drive South.
Suffolk County officials are saying that the accident took place around 10 PM on Friday, December 26. A vehicle was traveling southbound on Pinelawn Road when they attempted to turn onto Express Drive South at a green light.
That vehicle was struck by a Mazda CX-7. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. One person was transferred to the hospital with critical injuries.
A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Drivers must use caution to avoid causing car accidents. Many car accidents involve drivers that make dangerous left turns. Pursuant to NY Veh & Traf L § 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Several factors could contribute to a left-turn collision.
The vast majority of car accidents are preventable. They tend to involve situations where drivers fail to properly scan the road ahead of them or observe traffic regulations. It is important for accident victims to know that they do have legal options. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a personal injury claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Melville car accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation of what went wrong.
