Allegedly Intoxicated Driver Involved in Atlantic Beach Collision That Left 11-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured
ATLANTIC BEACH, LONG ISLAND (February 3, 2025) – An 11-year-old boy was severely injured in an Atlantic Beach car accident on Beach Street.
Long Island police officials are saying that the collision took place around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The driver of a Chevrolet Equinox was involved in a collision with a Chevrolet Traverse going the opposite direction.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victims. An 11-year-old passenger in the Traverse was seriously injured and airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Police believe that alcohol played a role in the crash. A full investigation remains ongoing.
Driver intoxication remains a leading cause of preventable injury and death and motor vehicle collisions in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 42 minutes. In 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.” There are many ways alcohol can impair a person’s ability to drive safely.
It is illegal to operate any motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If a driver allows a motor vehicle to enter into opposing lanes of traffic, this could be construed as negligence. Any person injured in a collision due to the negligence of a drunk driver can seek damages through a personal injury claim. A personal injury attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Atlantic Beach car accident. It is our sincere hope that they are able to make a full recovery. There needs to be some accountability for the sake of all who have been harmed.
