Buses can weigh 20 times more than passenger vehicles and are involved in many serious injury collisions every year. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “on average, about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury.” Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
Bus drivers are considered common carriers. They must operate with an abundance of caution to avoid causing accidents. If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person injured in a bus accident may be able to recover damages through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the child injured in this collision and his family. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. This was a preventable incident that should not have taken place.
