Boy Seriously Injured in East Atlantic Beach DUI Accident

Driver Arrested After 11-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured in East Atlantic Beach DWI Car Accident

EAST ATLANTIC BEACH, NEW YORK (December 31, 2025) – An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured in an East Atlantic Beach DUI car accident.

Long Island police officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:30 PM on Wednesday. A driver was heading eastbound on Beach Street when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle by the intersection of Scott Drive.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help all of the victims. An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured in the crash and transported to the hospital.

Police have since arrested the first driver on suspicion of DWI. A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Neighbors are saying that there’s a history of collisions along that stretch of road.

Liability for East Atlantic Beach DWI Car Accidents

Driver intoxication remains one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 42 minutes. In 2023, 12,429 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.” There are many ways that alcohol can seriously impact a person’s ability to operate their vehicle safely.

  • It is substantially more difficult for drivers to remain in a single lane of traffic when intoxicated.
  • Intoxicated drivers are more likely to travel at excessive speeds without realizing it.
  • Drivers are far less able to multitask when they’re intoxicated by one or more substances.

It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other substances. In particular, drivers must not have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent or higher. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that hits another vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Victims of these collisions are able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
