New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 1 PM on Tuesday. A mother was riding with her three children when her Uber was struck by a wigmaker who allegedly ran through a red light.
Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims. The mother involved in the crash was knocked unconscious. Sadly, she and two children died due to their injuries.
A full investigation into the cause of the Brooklyn Uber accident remains ongoing.
Many people are injured in Uber accidents every year. According to UIC Today, “One-third of ride-share drivers surveyed in a new study reported being involved in a crash while working. Using a cellphone, driving while tired or driving on unfamiliar roads increased the likelihood of a crash, according to the study by University of Illinois Chicago researchers.” There are a number of factors that may contribute to an Uber accident.
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. They must slow down in order to avoid colliding with another vehicle. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that goes past a red light without stopping and collides with another vehicle. It is important that certain steps are taken after any Uber accident.
It is common for victims of Uber accidents to be seriously injured. They may need to take extensive periods of time away from work and be burdened with high medical bills. In many cases, a serious injury can impact a person’s ability to live a normal life. Any person injured in an Uber accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victims killed in this crash. This was a preventable crash that should not have taken place. Any person with more information should reach out to the NYPD.
