Elderly Woman Died in Wakefield, Bronx Hit-and-Run Collision While Crossing White Plains Road
WAKEFIELD, BRONX (July 1, 2026) – An elderly woman has tragically died in a Wakefield, Bronx car accident along White Plains Road near East 225 Street.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. A 31-year-old man was riding a motorcycle when he struck the victim.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim. She was transported to a local area hospital to receive treatment.
Sadly, she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the motorcycle did not remain at the scene. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
It is illegal for any person involved in an injury collision to leave the scene of the crash. Despite this, many people are killed in these collisions each year. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “The current analysis found that both the rates of hit-and-run crashes and fatalities are increasing. There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds.” There are several factors that could contribute to any collision.
If a driver does not slow down in time to avoid hitting a pedestrian in the roadway, this could be construed as negligence. Even if a pedestrian is in the middle of the roadway, this does not relieve a driver of their duty of care to slow down to avoid a collision. Victims of pedestrian accidents are protected by a number of laws. In particular, the family of any person who died in a pedestrian accident can hold liable parties accountable through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman who died in this collision. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. The driver responsible should do the right thing and come forward. It is never too late to do the right thing.
