Investigation Underway After Woman Died in Oswego County Truck Accident

OSWEGO COUNTY, NEW YORK (April 19, 2026) – An 80-year-old woman has tragically died in an Oswego County truck accident near County Route 45 and County Route 4.

Oswego County officials are saying that the incident occurred around 12.12 p.m. on March 5. A truck was traveling down the roadway when the driver failed to stop before entering into an intersection.

That truck collided with a minivan driven by an elderly woman. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim.

Sadly, she was beyond medical aid and pronounced dead at the scene. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Oswego County Semi-Truck Accidents

Every driver in New York has a legal obligation to operate their vehicle with the caution and precision necessary to avoid collisions. According to NY Veh & Traf L § 1172, “Except when directed to proceed by a police officer, every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop sign shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, then shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection.” There are many ways that a truck driver may have acted negligently prior to a collision.

  • A truck driver may have failed to check their blind spots before turning.
  • A truck driver may have been intoxicated by their use of a prescription drug.
  • A truck driver may have failed to abide by hours of service regulations.

If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid another vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. The vast majority of truck accidents are preventable. They tend to involve truck drivers that are not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. The family of any person who died in a truck accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
