OSHA Investigation Underway After Woman Fell To Her Death at Titan Homes in the Town of Sangerfield
SANGERFIELD, NEW YORK (July 13, 2026) – A 45-year-old woman has tragically died in a Sangerfield industrial accident at Titan Homes.
Oneida County officials are saying that the accident took place around 9:00 AM on July 9. A 45-year-old woman fell for undetermined reasons.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. She was taken to Wynn Hospital in critical condition.
Unfortunately, she was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The medical examiner is currently working to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
OSHA is also conducting its own investigation.
Falls remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury of death for workers in the construction industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “In 2024, there were 1,034 workplace deaths in the private-sector construction industry. Over one-third (389) of fatal injuries in construction were due to falls, slips, and trips, and 95.9 percent of these were falls to a lower level. Construction accounted for almost half (48.8 percent) of all fatal falls, slips, and trips in private industry in 2024.” Construction companies should take several measures to prevent falls.
In New York, construction companies can be held strictly liable for falls under the scaffold law. The statute applies to most instances where a worker falls or is struck by a falling object. For the statute to apply, a worker must be engaged in some type of qualifying activity, such as the repairing, altering, or painting of a building. The family of any worker who died in the construction accident is able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman who died in this accident. There needs to be a thorough investigation by OSHA into what went wrong. Workers should not have to fear that they will be seriously injured during the execution of their job duties.
