Woman Killed in East Harlem High-Rise Apartment Fire on 122 Street

Investigation Underway After 72-Year-Old Woman Died When Fire Broke Out on 19th Floor of Apartment at 221 East 122nd Street

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (September 18, 2025) – A 72-year-old woman has physically died in an East Harlem, Manhattan apartment fire at 221 East 122nd Street.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place shortly before 7 PM on Wednesday. The fire started on the 9th floor of the high-rise.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims. The woman was extricated from the building but later died due to her injuries.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries. The blaze was eventually under control by 8 PM.

A full investigation into the cause of the East Harlem fire remains ongoing.
