Investigation Underway After Woman Killed by Rushing FDNY Truck in Bronx by Intervale Avenue and Chisholm Street
BRONX, NEW YORK (July 13, 2026)—A woman has tragically died in a Bronx car accident involving an FDNY truck near the intersection of Intervale Avenue and Chisholm Street.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:15 PM on Friday. A woman was crossing the street when she was struck by an FDNY fire engine.
The force of the impact knocked the woman to the ground, leaving her with serious injuries. She was rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.
Sadly, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital. A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.
Many people are seriously injured or killed every year in accidents involving emergency vehicles. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2024, 225 people died in crashes involving emergency vehicles. More than half of these deaths were occupants of non-emergency vehicles (56%). Deaths among pedestrians accounted for 24% of the total, while emergency vehicle drivers represented 9%, and emergency vehicle passengers accounted for about 8% of the deaths.” Several actions should be taken after any fire truck accident.
Emergency vehicles have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid colliding with pedestrians. If a fire truck is engaged in an emergency response with their lights and sirens on, they must still use caution to avoid collisions. The private or municipal employer that a firetruck belonged to could be liable for an accident if they acted with a reckless disregard for the safety of the public.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman killed in this accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
