Woman Injured in Rochester Bus Accident

New York State Police Continuing To Investigate Rochester Bus Accident That Injured Woman

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK (April 19, 2026) – A 38-year-old woman was injured in a Rochester bus accident near the intersection of Hudson Avenue and Clifford Avenue.

Monroe County officials are saying the incident occurred around 10:54 AM on Tuesday. New York State police were attempting to stop a vehicle for traffic violations.

The driver of that vehicle did not stop, and a police chase was initiated. The driver of the Chevrolet Trax involved in the chase collided with a regional transit service bus.

The force of the impact caused one of the vehicles to hit a female pedestrian. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim.

She was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment.

Liability for Rochester Bus Accidents

Buses are considered common carriers. Their drivers must operate with an abundance of caution to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway. According to New York Vehicle Code 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Even if a pedestrian is in the middle of a roadway, this does not relieve a driver of their duty of care to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway. The victims of bus accidents are able to pursue some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
