BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (January 27, 2026) – A woman has died in a Crown Heights, Brooklyn semi-truck accident on eastbound Eastern Parkway.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:20 AM on Friday. The woman was attempting to cross the street when she was hit by a large truck.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver involved in the collision did not remain at the scene and is currently being sought by police. A full investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash remains ongoing.
Drivers have a legal obligation to use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, “Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to the contrary, every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian accident, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is also possible that liability for the collision could extend beyond any driver. The company that the truck driver was working for could also be held at fault. Generally speaking, employers can be liable for the wrongful conduct of their workers.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman who died in the collision. This was a preventable crash that should not have taken place. Any person who may have more information should reach out to the NYPD.
