WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN (April 29, 2026) – A mother of four has tragically died in a Williamsburg, Brooklyn accident involving a trash compactor at an apartment complex.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place on January 31. A woman may have accidentally tumbled into a trash compactor while trying to retrieve her purse.
After she tumbled down the trash compactor, the machine turned on. She was seriously injured in the process.

A full investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.
Property owners in New York have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. If a property owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition on their premises, they must take action. Failing to take action could form the basis of a premises liability claim. Several steps should be taken to prevent trash compactor accidents.
Falls remain a major cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “In the United States, over 14 million, or one in four, adults ages 65 and older (older adults), report falling each year. While not all falls result in an injury, about 37% of those who fall reported an injury that required medical treatment or restricted their activity for at least one day, resulting in an estimated nine million fall injuries.” Any person injured in a trash compactor may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman who died in this accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
