Woman Critically Injured in Oceanside Car Accident With Van

78-Year-Old Woman Critically Injured In Oceanside Collision With Chevy Express Van on Long Beach Road

OCEANSIDE, NEW YORK (June 22, 2026) – A woman was critically injured in an Oceanside car accident along Long Beach Road.

Long Island officials are saying the accident took place around 4:41 PM on June 18. A pedestrian was walking on Long Beach Road and crossing at a crosswalk by Weidner Avenue.

She was subsequently struck by a Chevrolet Express van. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the woman.

She was taken to a local area hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet Express van has been charged with driving while intoxicated and assault.

Liability for Oceanside Pedestrian Accidents

A large portion of pedestrian collisions are with drivers that are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. According to the National Safety Council, “Alcohol-impaired driving continues to be one of the biggest safety issues on U.S. roads. In 2024, 11,904 people were killed in alcohol-impaired crashes, a decrease of 3.9%, marking the third consecutive yearly improvement.” Even small amounts of alcohol can substantially impair a person’s ability to operate a vehicle safely.

  • Drivers are substantially less able to maintain their vehicle in a single lane if they’ve had alcohol.

  • Drivers are less able to maintain a consistent speed if they have had alcohol.

  • Drivers are less able to track moving objects if they have had alcohol.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. When drivers are intoxicated and develop that collision, they could also face numerous criminal charges. Victims of pedestrian accidents are protected by a number of laws. They are able to seek some measure of accountability for injustice through a civil claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
