Two People Seriously Injured in Sag Harbor

Man From Southampton Arrested After Sag Harbor Boat Crash Seriously Injured Two People

SAG HARBOR, NEW YORK (July 7, 2026) –  Two people were seriously injured in a Sag Harbor boat accident after the boat involved collided with a jetty.

Sag Harbor officials are saying that the incident occurred on the evening of July 5. A 35-foot cruise boat was headed into the harbor when it struck a stone jetty.

The impact caused significant damage to the vessel and injured multiple passengers. At least two of the eight passengers on board sustained injuries.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victims. The injuries that the victims sustained included a leg fracture, vertebrae fracture, and a broken hip.

A full investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing.

Liability for Sag Harbor Boat Accidents

Boating remains a very popular recreational activity. But it can also be very dangerous at times. According to the Children’s Safety Network, “In 2013, 560 individuals lost their lives while boating, and 2,620 sustained non-fatal injuries. Forty-nine of those who died and 589 of those who were injured were youth between the ages of 0 and 19 years old.” There are many ways that a boat operator may have acted negligently prior to a crash.

  • A boat operator may allow their vessel to drift too close to fixed objects.
  • A boat operator may have been traveling at an unsafe speed given the weather conditions.
  • A boat operator may have failed to keep a proper lookout for swimmers in the water and fixed hazards.
  • A boat operator may have been intoxicated through the use of drugs or alcohol.

Boat operators are expected to operate their vessels in a reasonably safe manner at all times. This necessitates that they maintain a safe speed and have a safe proximity from fixed objects. If a boat operator collides with a fixed object, this could serve as evidence of negligence. These types of accidents are nearly always avoidable when safety precautions are being taken. Any person injured in a New York boat accident may be able to pursue damages in a civil claim.
