Investigation Underway After Two People Were Injured When MTA Bus Drove Into Brooklyn Burger King
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (July 26, 2024) – At least two people were injured in a Brooklyn MTA bus accident at the intersection of Fort Hamilton Parkway and Dahill Road.
New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 12:10 a.m. on Thursday. The driver of an MTA bus lost control of his vehicle and collided with a Burger King.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help all of the victims. At least two people sustained injuries in the crash.
A photo of the accident scene shows the Burger King missing a large portion of an exterior wall. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing at this time.
Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the IIHS, “A total of 42,514 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2022. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s most recent estimate of the annual economic cost of crashes is $340 billion.” Buses can be particularly dangerous for a number of reasons.
All bus drivers have a legal obligation to take measures in order to avoid collisions. Many collisions involve bus drivers who are traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions. Even driving the speed limit could be considered dangerous, depending on the weather and other hazards on the road. When a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of bus accidents should take a number of actions in order to preserve their rights.
Bus accidents can be very hard on individuals and their families. Many of the injuries associated with bus accidents may not be obvious for many weeks or months. For example, many bus accident victims tend to suffer psychological injuries that could linger much longer than physical injuries. Any person injured in a bus accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
