Investigation Underway After Two People Injured in North Amityville Car Accident

NORTH AMITYVILLE, NEW YORK (December 31, 2025) – At least two people were injured in a North Amityville car accident along Schleigel Boulevard.

Long Island officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:30 PM on Sunday. A man was driving a Jeep Cherokee southbound near Columbus Boulevard when he veered into the northbound lane of traffic and struck a Volkswagen.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help all of the victims. The driver of the Volkswagen suffered serious injuries.

His passenger suffered injuries in the collision as well. Both victims were transported to the hospital to receive treatment.

A full investigation into the North Amityville collision remains ongoing.

Liability for Long Island Car Accidents

Speeding remains one of the leading causes of preventable car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2023, killing 11,775, or an average of over 32 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,541.” There are many ways that speeding could contribute to a car accident.

  • Drivers are much more likely to lose control of their vehicles at higher speeds.
  • It takes longer to stop a moving vehicle at higher speeds.
  • Drivers are more likely to roll over at higher speeds.

Every driver has a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid colliding with other vehicles in the roadway. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that leaves their lane of traffic and collides with another vehicle. Any person injured in a car accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
