HORSEHEADS, NEW YORK (April 21, 2024) – Two children were injured in a Horseheads car accident at the intersection of Wygant Road and Ridge Road.

Horseheads police officials are saying that the accident took place around 2:53 p.m. on Saturday. A 2012 Toyota Highlander was involved in a collision with a BMW.

The Highlander then drove through the intersection, hitting a 2010 Toyota Rav4. This caused the Rav4 to pin an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old against a building.

A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability For New York Car Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured in car accidents every year. According to New York Vehicle & Traffic Law § 1146(a), drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. Drivers should also use their horns in order to alert pedestrians and other drivers of their presence. There are a number of common factors that could contribute to a pedestrian accident.

  • Speeding
  • Drunk driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions

Most pedestrian accidents are preventable. They often involve drivers who are not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person injured in a pedestrian accident may have legal recourse through a personal injury claim. A personal injury attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
