Investigation Underway After Several People Were Injured in Farmingdale Collision With Long Island Rail Road Train
LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK (February 3, 2026) – At least three passengers were injured in an LIRR train accident in Farmingdale at the Little East Neck Road crossing.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 7:15 PM on Monday. An LIRR train was involved in a collision with the passenger vehicle.
The force of the impact completely destroyed the passenger vehicle. It remains unclear if there were any people on the inside of the car at the time of the accident.
However, at least three people on the train were injured. A full investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.
Many people are killed or seriously injured in train accidents each year. According to the National Safety Council, “Railroad deaths totaled 954 in 2024, a 1% decrease from the 2023 revised total of 967. Nonfatal injuries totaled 6,542, a 3% decrease from the 2023 revised total of 6,768. From 2023 to 2024, fatalities at highway-rail crossings increased 7%, while fatalities involving other types of incidents decreased 4%.” Several factors could contribute to a train accident.
Train operators have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid colliding with vehicles and other hazards on the tracks ahead of them. It necessitates that they continuously scan ahead of them and slow down to avoid hazards. If a train conductor fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person injured may be able to pursue damages through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Farmingdale train accident. It is our sincere hope that all of the victims will be able to make a full recovery. Any person that may have more information should reach out to the police.
