Teen Killed in NYC Car Accident While Riding E-Bike Near City Hall

E-Bike Rider Died After Hitting SUV By City Hall on Centre Street by Chambers Street in Lower Manhattan

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (July 29, 2026) – A 17-year-old boy tragically died in a Manhattan e-bike collision near the intersection of Centre Street and Chambers Street.

New York City officials are saying that the collision occurred around 9:00 AM on Wednesday during the morning rush-hour. The teen riding the e-bike was involved in a collision with a black 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe headed the same direction.

Police believed that the victim was looking for summer jobs based on information given to them by his sister. The bike involved in the incident was a Deepower electric bike, which has been outlawed in NYC.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Despite medical efforts by EMS, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash took place near City Hall. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

A full investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision remains ongoing. Community organizers have raised concerns about the growing presence of high speed bikes.

So far this year, there have been 13 fatalities involving people riding bikes or e-bikes.
