Investigation Underway After Train Catches Fire in Astor Place Subway Fire That Left 11 People Injured

NOHO, MANHATTAN (August 8, 2026) – At least 11 people were injured after a fire broke out in an Astor Place subway station, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

New York City officials are saying that the accident occurred around 2:15 AM on Tuesday. A second alarm fire broke out at the NoHo Manhattan station.

An estimated 46 firefighting units were called to the scene to help put out the fire. In total, six MTA workers and five firefighters were hospitalized as a result of the blaze.

A full investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing at this time. Multiple rail lines were closed as workers were sent to repair the damages.
