One Person Died In Car Accident While Riding Scooter By Linden Boulevard and Thomas Boyland Street
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (January 20, 2024) – A 30-year-old scooter rider has tragically died in Brooklyn after being hit by a BMW by Thomas Boyland Street and Linden Boulevard.
New York City police officials are saying that the incident began around 1:40 a.m. on Christmas. A man was riding a scooter when he was hit by a BMW.
Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead.
A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Pedestrians lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are much more likely to be overlooked. According to one report from the New York City Department of Transportation, “Pedestrians are 10 times more likely to die than a motor vehicle occupant in the event of a crash. Serious pedestrian crashes are about two-thirds deadlier on major street corridors than on smaller local streets.” Drivers should take a number of steps in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.
Drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a scooter rider, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person that died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A personal injury attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
