HOLTSVILLE, NEW YORK (June 25, 2026) -A pedestrian was seriously injured in a Holtsville car accident near the intersection of Union Avenue and Patchogue-Holbrook Road.
Suffolk County police are saying that the accident took place around 7:45 PM on June 17. A pedestrian was crossing the intersection when they were struck by a 2010 Honda Accord.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help them. The pedestrian was transported to Stony Brook Hospital with serious injuries. A full investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
Pedestrians are uniquely vulnerable to the hazards posed by motor vehicles. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, “GHSA’s analysis of preliminary data provided by State Highway Safety Offices (SHSOs) found that U.S. drivers struck and killed 7,148 pedestrians in 2024, enough to fill more than 30 Boeing 737 jets at maximum capacity.” Drivers should take several actions to avoid hitting pedestrians.
Drivers should maintain a safe speed at all times.
Drivers should use their horn to alert pedestrians of their presence.
Drivers should check their blind spots before making turns at intersections.
If a driver does not slow down or take other evasive actions to avoid hitting a pedestrian in the roadway, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Even if a pedestrian is outside of a marked crosswalk, this does not remove a driver’s responsibility to avoid hitting that pedestrian. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of a driver is able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil action.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the pedestrian injured in this crash. It is our sincere hope they are able to make a full recovery. Any person who may have more information about what happened should contact the police. City officials should consider measures to help make this intersection safer.
