Investigation Underway After Pedestrian Died in Sussex Car Collision on Route 15 North

SUSSEX COUNTY, NEW JERSEY (February 13, 2026) – A pedestrian tragically died in a Sussex County car accident on Route 15 N. not far from the 9-mile marker.

Sussex County officials are saying that the collision took place around 8:30 PM on Tuesday. A 63-year-old man was standing by his disabled vehicle when he was hit by a passing commercial vehicle of some type.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. He was transported to the hospital with major injuries and later died. A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Sussex County Car Accidents

Speeding remains a major contributing factor for a fatal pedestrian accident. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2023, killing 11,775, or an average of over 32 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,541.” There are many ways that a driver may have acted negligently prior to a collision.

  • A driver may have been distracted by their phone.
  • A driver may have been following another vehicle too closely.
  • A driver may have failed to properly scan the road ahead of them for hazards.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Liability for a pedestrian collision could extend far beyond any specific driver deemed to be at fault. The company that a truck driver was working for could also be liable. Generally speaking, employers are liable for the wrongful actions of their workers who were operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
