Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Bronx Car Accident on East138th Street

Investigation Underway After Bronx Pedestrian Killed in Truck Accident by East 138th Street and Bruckner Boulevard

BRONX, NEW YORK (June 13, 2026)— A 40-year-old male pedestrian has tragically died in a Bronx hit-and-run car accident involving a truck by E. 138th St. and Bruckner Boulevard.

NYC officials are saying that the collision took place around 7:30 PM on Sunday. A pedestrian on crutches was attempting to cross the street when they were hit by a truck.

A second vehicle identified as a 2015 Honda CR-V was heading in the same direction and struck the man after he was lying on the ground. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim.

He was transported to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the truck did not remain at the scene of the collision and is currently being sought by police.

Liability for Bronx Truck Accidents

Truck drivers have a legal obligation to use caution to avoid any pedestrian on a roadway. According to New York Vehicle Code 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” There are several factors that could contribute to any pedestrian collision.

  • A large portion of hit-and-run collisions involve intoxicated drivers.
  • Drivers are more likely to be involved in pedestrian crashes if they are speeding.
  • Pedestrian accidents are more likely to happen at intersections, especially as drivers are making turns.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any pedestrian on the roadway, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Liability for any pedestrian accident could extend beyond any specific driver determined to be at fault. This is particularly true if a truck or other commercial vehicle was involved in a collision. Generally speaking, employers can be liable for the negligent conduct of their workers who were working within the course and scope of their job duties.
