Pedestrian on Crutches Killed in Bronx Car Accident Involving Truck and SUV by East 138th Street
BRONX, NEW YORK (May 31, 2026) – A 40-year-old pedestrian has tragically died in a Bronx car accident near the intersection of East 138th Street and Bruckner Boulevard.
New York City officials are saying the accident took place around 7 PM on Sunday. A pedestrian who was using crutches was crossing the road when he was hit by a truck.
The force of the impact knocked him into the ground before he was subsequently struck by the Honda CR–V SUV. Paramedics will call to the scene of the crash to help the injured victim.
Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital. Police are still searching for the driver of the truck believed to be involved in the crash.
Speed remains a leading cause of pedestrian accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2024, killing 11,288, or an average of over 31 people on a typical day. A crash is considered speeding-related if the driver was charged with a speeding-related offense or if racing, driving too fast for conditions, or exceeding the posted speed limit was indicated as a contributing factor in the crash.” Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to sustain very serious injuries.
Every driver must use caution to avoid colliding with pedestrians in the roadway. If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Liability for a truck accident could also extend to any specific driver determined to be at fault. The company that the truck driver worked for could be liable. Generally speaking, employers can be liable for the wrongful conduct of their workers who were operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the person killed in this crash. It is our sincere hope that they will be able to make a full recovery. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong. Any person who may have more information should reach out to the police.
