Investigation Underway After Pedestrian Died in Brentwood Collision by Suffolk Avenue and Fulton Street

BRENTWOOD, NEW YORK (June 18, 2026) – A pedestrian died in a Brentwood car accident in the eastbound lane of Suffolk Avenue not far from Fulton Street.

Suffolk County officials are saying that the accident took place around 2:20 AM on June 15. A pedestrian was trying to cross the roadway when they were hit by a 2017 Ford Escape.

The 80-year-old victim involved in the crash was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

A full investigation of the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Suffolk County Pedestrian Accidents

Drivers are supposed to use caution to avoid colliding with pedestrians or other potential hazards. According to New York Vehicle Code 1146, “every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Cities can take a number of measures to prevent pedestrian accidents.

  • Cities should ensure that intersections are well illuminated.

  • Cities should install traffic calming measures in areas where there is speeding.

  • City should heavily enforce traffic violations likely to lead to pedestrian accidents.

If a driver does not slow down to avoid a pedestrian, this could serve as the basis of a liability claim. Many pedestrian accidents occur with drivers that are traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions. Even driving the speed limit could be considered unsafe during periods of reduced visibility. The family of any person killed in a pedestrian accident is able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
