Pedestrian Injured in Oceanside Car Accident

Long Island Police Investigating Major Pedestrian Collision By Lawson Boulevard and Anchor Avenue in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, NEW YORK (October 2, 2026) – A pedestrian was critically injured in an Oceanside car accident near the intersection of Lawson Boulevard and Anchor Avenue.

Nassau County officials are saying that the accident occurred around 9:48 PM on Friday, September 25. A 51-year-old male pedestrian was reportedly attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a Jeep.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. He was transported in an ambulance to a local area hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

Liability for Oceanside Car Accident

Drivers in New York must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian that they encounter. This necessitates that they operate their vehicle at a safe speed at all times. Pursuant to NY Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.” There are several factors that could contribute to any pedestrian collision.

  • Pedestrian collisions are much more likely to occur in the early morning and late evening hours when visibility is reduced.
  • Pedestrian accidents are more likely to occur at intersections, particularly when drivers are making turns.
  • Driver intoxication remains one of the leading causes of pedestrian collisions across New York and the United States.
  • Many pedestrian collisions involve drivers that were fatigued at the time of the crash.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian that they encounter, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Even if a pedestrian is in the middle of the road, this does not remove a driver’s duty of care to slow down to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, drivers and their insurance providers are not likely to accept responsibility when a pedestrian is seriously injured. This is why it’s so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party.
