Suffolk County Police Searching for Driver in Fatal Holbrook Hit-and-Run Collision
HOLBROOK, NEW YORK (July 7, 2026) – A pedestrian has tragically died following a Holbrook hit-and-run car accident along Broadway Avenue.
Suffolk County officials are saying that the collision occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night. A pedestrian was walking across the street when they were struck by a vehicle.
The driver involved in that crash did not remain at the scene and is currently being sought by the police. The pedestrian was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore in critical condition.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Anyone with more information should reach out to the police.
It is illegal to flee the scene of any car accident that results in serious injury or death. Despite this, thousands of people are killed in hit-and-run crashes every year. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “The current analysis found that both the rates of hit-and-run crashes and fatalities are increasing. There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds.” There are many ways that a driver may act negligently prior to a crash.
Drivers are supposed to scan the road ahead of them for hazards and take reasonable precautions to avoid colliding with any pedestrian. When drivers do not take reasonable precautions to avoid hitting a pedestrian, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. Negligent drivers could also face criminal liability if they leave the scene of any crash that results in injury. Victims of hit-and-run collisions should carefully consider legal options and consult a team experienced in personal injury claims.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian who died in this crash. Any person who may have more information should contact the police. The driver responsible for this crash should also do the right thing and come forward. It is never too late to do the right thing.
