Liability for Suffolk County Pedestrian Accidents

Pedestrians have a smaller profile than passenger vehicles and are more likely to be seriously injured in the event of a crash. According to the National Safety Council, “most pedestrian traffic deaths occurred in urban settings (83%), on the open road (75%) versus intersections (25%), and during dark conditions with or without artificial lighting (74%). The largest number of pedestrian deaths occurred on Fridays (1,095), closely followed by Saturdays (1,103).” Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Drivers are supposed to move over in their lane to give pedestrians adequate space. But far too often, this does not happen. Any person injured in a pedestrian accident is able to seek some measure of accountability and justice through a civil claim. A personal injury attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
