Liability For Barre Hit-And-Run Car Accidents

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in hit-and-run accidents. According to the AAA Foundation, “In 2016, there were 1,980 fatal hit-and-run crashes resulting in 2,049 fatalities. This is the highest annual number of hit-and-run fatalities or crashes recorded since NHTSA began compiling statistics on fatal motor vehicle crashes in 1975.” There are a number of steps that should be taken after any hit-and-run collision.

  • Eye witnesses should be interviewed.
  • Medical records should be preserved.
  • Surveillance footage should be sought.
  • A thorough investigation should be contacted.

All drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid collisions. Many car accidents are due to drivers that were traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions. If a driver flees the scene of an injury collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person that is killed in a car accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
