Investigation Underway After One Person Died in Rochester Garbage Truck Collision
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK (October 2, 2025) – One person has tragically died in a Rochester garbage truck accident on Interstate 590, according to New York State Police.
Rochester police officials are saying that the collision occurred around 3:00 PM on Tuesday. A person was driving a Corvette when they were involved in a crash with a Harvester garbage truck.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victims. One of the vehicles apparently caught fire after the crash.
Sadly, the driver of the Corvette died at the scene. A full investigation into the Rochester garbage truck accident remains ongoing.
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in truck accidents across the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 5,375 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, an 8.4% decrease from 2022 but a 43% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is down 8% from 2022, but up 22% in the last 10 years.” Many different factors could contribute to truck accidents.
All garbage truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid collisions. They must operate their vehicles at a safe speed at all times. Moreover, they must continuously scan the road ahead of them and slow down to avoid hazards. If a garbage truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a vehicle, this may be construed as negligence. It is important that certain steps be taken after any garbage truck accident.
Truck accidents tend to be preventable when truck drivers scan the road ahead of them and observe all traffic regulations. It is somewhat common for truck drivers to be pushed into adopting unsafe driving habits. Efficiency may become more important than safety as companies seek to be as profitable as possible. The family of any person killed in a collision may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man killed in this Rochester garbage truck accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to authorities. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
