FDNY Truck Involved in Serious Collision With MTA Bus in the Bronx
BRONX, NEW YORK (September 2, 2026) – At least 14 people were injured in an MTA bus collision by the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Barreto Street.
New York City officials are saying that the crash occurred around 12:30 PM on Tuesday. An MTA bus was heading through an intersection when it was involved in a collision with an FDNY truck.
Photos of the accident site showed major damage to the right side of the MTA bus. Multiple passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Several of the people on the bus could be seen walking away. At least one person was removed from the scene on a stretcher.
In all, there were at least 14 people injured in the bus crash. The fire truck did not appear to have its lights and sirens on at the time of the crash.
Authorized emergency vehicles have a number of unique rights and privileges in relation to operating their vehicle under New York Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1104. They are allowed to speed, go through red lights, and travel on the left side of the roadway when necessary. However, they must’ve been in the midst of an actual emergency with their lights and sirens on to drive in such a manner. When an emergency vehicle is not being used for emergency purposes, they must slow down and obey traffic regulations as with any other driver. It is important that several steps are taken after any accident involving a fire truck.
Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be multiple liable parties for any collision. This is particularly true if more than one commercial vehicle was involved in a crash. In particular, bus companies are considered common carriers and expected to operate with an abundance of caution to avoid collision. They can be legally responsible for even the slightest negligence of their drivers. Any person injured in a collision with an MTA bus may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil action.
We at GLK Law were very concerned to hear about this Bronx MTA bus collision. It is our hope that all affected parties will be able to make a full recovery. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the NYPD. Many important questions have yet to be addressed.
