Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of serious injury and death in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “2022 marks the first decrease in deaths since 2019. Deaths decreased 2% in 2022 following an 11% increase in 2021 and an 8% increase in 2020. In 2022, 46,027 people died in motor-vehicle crashes compared to 46,980 in 2021 and 42,338 in 2020.” Drivers should take a number of measures in order to avoid collisions.
All drivers must take reasonable measures to ensure that they do not cause collisions. This is particularly true when drivers make turns. Any driver intending to make a left turn in the roadway must first yield the right of way to all oncoming traffic that is close enough to pose a hazard. If a driver makes an unsafe turn in front of another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is crucial that certain steps are taken after any car accident.
Car accidents can have far reaching implications for a person’s life. Many victims are left with high medical bills and limited mobility. This can impact their ability to keep their jobs. Indeed, some people are so seriously injured that they are never able to return to work. Any person injured in a car accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Hollis collision. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. This was a preventable collision that should not have taken place.
