MTA bus accidents in New York City remain all too common. According to one report from the New York Post, “At least 2,520 people — or 2.7 per day — were injured [from 2015 – 2018], according to the MTA. At least 14 people died, including a 25-year-old skateboarder, a 62-year-old pedestrian, a 60-year-old motorist and a 70-year-old with a walker who was mutilated by a hit-and-run bus.” Bus drivers should take a number of measures in order to avoid causing accidents.
All drivers have a legal obligation to take steps in order to avoid causing collisions. This may necessitate that a driver operate their vehicle well below the speed limit in certain situations. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of bus accidents often suffer very serious injuries.
Many of the injuries associated with bus accidents are not physical. Survivors often report psychological injuries long after their physical injuries have healed. Any person injured in a bus accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A bus accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
