Tesla Driver Arrested Following Suspected DUI Car Accident near Greenbelt Parkway and Route 27 in Holbrook
HOLBROOK, NEW YORK (August 13, 2026) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a Holbrook car accident while driving southbound on Niccolls Road.
Local officials are saying that the incident occurred around 11 PM on Tuesday night. The motorcyclist was struck by a Tesla that was also traveling southbound on the roadway.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. That person was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital to receive treatment for major injuries.
Authorities arrested the driver of a Tesla on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
It is illegal for any person operating a motor vehicle to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Pursuant to NY Veh & Traf L § 1192, “No person shall operate a motor vehicle while the person’s ability to operate such motor vehicle is impaired by the consumption of alcohol.” Even small amounts of alcohol can substantially impair a person’s ability to operate a vehicle safely.
If a driver collides with another vehicle while under the influence of any alcohol or intoxicating substance, this could be used to demonstrate negligence. Drivers could also face criminal liability for their actions if they hit someone while intoxicated. Any person injured by an intoxicated driver may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a civil claim. Damages in a civil claim can cover lost wages and medical bills.
