Motorcyclist Killed Candor Car Accident on State Route 96

Ford SUV Driver Failed to See Motorcyclist Before Making Left Turn Into Iron Kettle Farms

CANDOR, NEW YORK (May 20, 2026) – One person has tragically died after a Candor motorcycle accident along State Route 96 by Iron Kettle Farms.

Tioga County officials are saying that the incident took place around May 16. A Ford SUV was traveling south along the roadway when that driver made a turn into Iron Kettle Farms.

Unfortunately, the Ford SUV turned directly into the path of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was traveling northbound.

The driver of the motorcycle was not able to avoid the collision and hit the side of the Ford SUV. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim. Sadly, the driver of the motorcycle later died due to their injuries.

A full investigation into the incident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Tioga County Motorcycle Accidents

Drivers must exercise due care to avoid hitting other vehicles in the roadway. Many car accidents are caused by drivers making dangerous left turns. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

If a driver makes a left turn into the path of another vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Depending on the facts of any case, liability for a car accident could extend beyond one specific to the driver determined to be at fault. This is particularly true if the driver was working at the time of a collision. The family of any person who died in a car accident is able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
