Motorcycle Transported To Hospital After Staten Island Car Accident By Hylan Boulevard and Reid Avenue
STATEN ISLAND, CALIFORNIA (November 13, 2024) – A 34-year-old motorcyclist was injured in Staten Island by Hylan Boulevard and Reid Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a vehicle under uncertain conditions.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim. He was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in stable condition.
A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
Motorcyclists are uniquely vulnerable in car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Although motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles and 0.7% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States, motorcyclists accounted for 14.6% of all traffic fatalities and 3.5% of all injuries in 2022.” Cities should take a number of measures in order to prevent motorcycle accidents.
All drivers must take reasonable steps in order to avoid collisions. Many motorcycle collisions involve drivers that make dangerous left turns. According to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” It is important that certain steps are taken after any motorcycle collision.
It can be hard to know what to do after a motorcycle collision. These collisions often leave victims with very serious injuries. Many of these injuries may not be apparent for several weeks or months. This is why it is so important that accident victims get a medical evaluation as early as possible. After this, it is always a good idea to seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our best wishes to the motorcyclist injured in this collision. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
