Motorcycle Collision on Staten Island Expressway Brooklyn Caused Long Traffic Delays on Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge
STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK (June 12, 2025) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision on the Staten Island Expressway, Brooklyn near the Goethals Bridge.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 6:45 AM on Thursday. A vehicle and the motorcycle collided in the roadway.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim.
The injured cyclist was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.
Thousands of motorcyclists are killed or seriously injured every year in collisions across the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Although motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles and 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States, motorcyclists accounted for 15.5% of all traffic fatalities and 3.4% of all injuries in 2023.” Drivers should take several measures to avoid colliding with motorcyclists.
Every driver must use caution in order to avoid colliding with any motorcyclist or vehicle in the roadway. This may necessitate that they travel far below the stated speed limit. In particular, motorcycle collisions are much more likely to occur in stop-and-go traffic. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a motorcyclist, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of motorcycle accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
Motorcycle accidents are often highly preventable. Part of the problem is that motorcycles have a low profile and are more likely to be overlooked by other drivers. This is particularly true in the early morning and at night. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of another driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the driver injured in this motorcycle accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the NYPD. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
