NYPD Investigating Bronx Hit-and-Run Collisions Near College Avenue and East 166th Street
MORRISANIA, BRONX (August 12, 2026) – A man has tragically died in a Morrisania, Bronx hit-and-run car accident near the intersection of College Avenue and East 166th Street.
New York City officials are saying that the incident occurred around 3:47 AM on Saturday morning. A man was reportedly struck by two vehicles and left lying unconscious in the roadway.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the injured victim. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of a BMW, suspected of being at fault for the collision, did not remain at the scene. It is under investigation by police.
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in preventable hit-and-run car accidents. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in 2015 (NHTSA, 2016). This translates to a hit-and-run crash happening somewhere in the U.S. every 43 seconds. The 2,049 fatalities that resulted from hit-and-run crashes in 2016 were the highest number ever recorded (NHTSA, 2017).” Drivers should take several measures to avoid collisions with pedestrians.
Drivers have a legal obligation to exercise care to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway. When a driver makes a dangerous maneuver prior to hitting any pedestrian, this could be used to demonstrate negligence. The family of any person killed in a pedestrian accident is protected by a number of laws. They are able to pursue some measure of accountability and justice through a wrongful death claim.
